Schools Educational opportunities abound, benefiting residents and businesses alike. A large portion of the City is served by the White Bear Lake Area Schools. A smaller portion is served by the Mounds View Public Schools. The charter
high school, Agricultural and Food Sciences Academy, is located within the
City.
For people interested in post-secondary education, Century College is very nearby. And, because of Vadnais Heights convenient location, there is easy access to all of the colleges and post-secondary institutions in the Twin Cities metro area.
Senior Citizen Programs Seniors in the local area are invited to join the Vadnais Heights Hi-Lites, an active group of seniors who get together for fellowship and variety of social activities. They meet twice each month, on the second and fourth Wednesdays, at Christ the Servant Lutheran Church, 3676 Centerville Road. Josephine Christensen is the program coordinator. For information or to get your name on the newsletter mailing list, call City Hall at 651.204.6000.
Programs for seniors are also provided by White Bear Area Senior Program, 484 East County Road F, White Bear Lake, MN 55110-7404. Barb Green is the program coordinator. You may reach Barb at 651.653.3126 or by going to their website at www.whitebearcommunityservices.org

Sewer Back Up If you are having a sewer problem in your home, first determine if it is within your household plumbing. If only some drains are affected, then the problem is within your home and you should call a plumber.
Residents and businesses are responsible for the portion of pipe that runs from their home to the City easement. Tree roots are the most common problem with these lines.
If all drains are working and water is backing up a floor drain, the problem could be caused by either your service line to the street or the City's sewer main.
If you are experiencing a sewer backup in your home, please call City Hall at 651.204.6000 during normal business hours. After hours, call the Ramsey County Sheriff at 651.484.3366.
Skating During the winter season the City operates outdoor rinks in two locations. The rinks are located at Community Park, 661 E. County Road F, and at Westfield Park, 520 Westfield Lane. They are open from mid-December until mid-February, depending on weather.

Snow Plowing Typically, City streets are plowed once snow has accumulated to a depth of two inches. There are four plow routes. Main roads are plowed first, followed by side streets. Key trails are plowed by City crews once two or more inches of snow have accumulated.
Sprinkling Policy The City has a sprinkling policy for its municipal water system users in effect from June 1 to September 15 to ensure an adequate water supply to meet consumer and emergency needs.
The guidelines are easy to remember. Homes and businesses with addresses ending with an even number may water their lawns on even-numbered days; addresses ending in an odd number may sprinkle on odd-numbered days.
A waiver from this policy may be requested for newly seeded or sodded lawns, or newly planted trees or landscape materials. Please contact City Hall at 651.204.6000 to obtain a waiver.

Storm, Tornado Warnings
In times of disaster and emergency, the City’s emergency management plan will guide the response. The plan ensures that the Fire Department, Sheriff’s Department, City leaders, City staff, and other disaster response organizations have a coordinated effort.
In case of power outages, the City has back-up generators for operating the wells to help ensure the availability of water. City Hall may also be powered by a generator, and would function as the emergency response headquarters, in times of disaster.
Sirens When civil defense sirens sound, the best advice is to seek shelter and turn on your radio to get the latest information. Seek shelter in your basement or an area with interior walls and no windows.
The sirens signal some type of emergency. Not limited to signaling a tornado, the sirens may be alerting the community to the possibility of a chemical spill, gas leak, or other natural or manmade disaster.
The siren has a loud, steady tone. Do not confuse the civil defense siren with the sound that signals a fire call. The fire call siren is a wavering tone that only sounds during daytime hours.
Located in five sites in the City, sirens are situated at the North Fire Station; and near the intersections of Snail Lake Road and Rice Street; International Drive and County Road E; Edgerton and I-694; and Owasso Blvd. and Rice Street.
Sirens are tested the first Wednesday of each month at 1:00 p.m.
Emergency Shelters For shelter, head to your basement or an area with interior walls and no windows.
A secure shelter is located in the Five Star Home Park for residents living in that neighborhood.
Vadnais Elementary School is available for shelter, when the sirens sound. Please use the main entry door into the building. During hours when the school is not normally open, the Fire Department will unlock the door for people seeking shelter to gain entry.
Trash Service Vadnais Heights is divided into three zones for trash service and recycling services. Each zone has a hauler/recycler assigned to handle the pick-ups and billings. The use of zones helps to minimize the wear and tear on streets and provides for better coordination of this service.
The hauler/recyclers are BFI, Waste Management (WM), and Red Arrow. If you have questions on services or billings, please contact your hauler directly.
BFI - 651.455.8634
Waste Management - 952.890.1100
Red Arrow - 651.224.2035
Refuse and recycling are picked up every Wednesday, except for holidays. If your collection day falls on or after certain holidays, your service will be one day late that week.
