Trail Safety

The City encourages safe trail usage and recommends these safety guidelines:

  • Wear a helmet when biking, skateboarding, or in-line skating.
  • Jogging or in-line skating on the roadway is considered illegal if a trail alternative exists.
  • Bikes must follow the same road rules as automobiles. Ride with traffic, stop at all signals, yield to pedestrians,  and signal turns.
  • Face traffic when walking, jogging, or in-line skating.
  • Use lights at night, wear reflective clothing, and avoid using devices that block your awareness.
  • Don't walk, bike, or play behind parked cars.
  • Keep your bike or wheels in good repair.
  • Avoid parking on striped shoulders.
  • Drivers must yield right-of-way to pedestrians in a crosswalk, marked or unmarked, where no traffic signals exist.
