It is the sister science to yoga and is based on the principles of three doshas or energies that make up every individual. Ayurvedic philosophy states there are energetic forces that influence all of nature and are present in everyone and everything. The five great elements in the universe: ether (or space), air, fire, water, and earth come together to form the three constitutions called doshas that Ayurveda uses for diagnosis of imbalances in the body, mind, and spirit.
